4 out of 5 stars Suprisingly one of the better MTB bicycle's I've tried   January 21, 2009

I have this bike for about 1 month now. From trying other MTB electric bike and comparing with this one, I have to say that I am really happy with this bicycle.
First of all, it's one of the lightest MTB electric bicycle out there on the market and the electric motor is quieter than the other electric MTB bikes I tried in here San Diego area.
I can ride this bike going up the hill with no problem (I still have to pedal since going up the hill just using the electric motor will not do it).
So, from the green and health stand point, this bike stands out. I can still ride the bike as if it's a normal bike; yet, I get some assist when I need. My bicycle ride is just getting easier.
All and all, this bike's price is attractive comparing to similar other bikes and the QUALITY of the bike is among the top of my standard.
I am happy to say that I am contributing to the healthier living and greener living.

3 out of 5 stars Not great, but worth the cost.   April 3, 2010

I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered this bike, but at the price, it seemed to offer a chance to try an electric-assisted bike without a major investment. Having had it for a couple of weeks, I think it met my expectations, and exceeded them slightly. I see it is currently unavailable, but I would recommend it, with some noted issues.

Problems: It came with no assembly instructions, and required some digging around on the internet, and the company website, to get enough info to finish the job. There wasn't much to do, but you want the brakes to work right, and it wasn't really clear as to how the electric assist feature functioned. The headlight and bell accessories were very flimsy, and needed replacing. The frame is pretty heavy, but that is to be expected in this price range.

Strengths: I was surprised at how comfortable the bike felt, and operated. Without messing with the electric assist, it's not a bad bike just for casual riding (on paved trails and surfaces). It's quiet and smooth, and the gears work easily. The electric assist is throttle based (handlebar grip) on the model I received, and seems to work OK. Riding into high wind isn't a good idea, but the extra kick when you are a little tired, and/or going uphill, is cool. (I am a geezer, and like the idea of some help on the way home, if I should need it.)

All in all, I recommend it, though I see it isn't currently available. I am concerned that Amazon markets these items, which can disappear overnight. This was my second attempt at getting this type of bike, so anyone else trying this would be on their third attempt.
